    Surviving Work

(rules as they come to me)

    1. If a meeting has a specified end time, leave at that time, even if the meeting isn't over.
    2. If a meeting does not have a specified end time, call the meeting convener and ask when the meeting will end. Leave at the specified end time.
    3. Bring something to work on in case the meeting starts late.

    10 Things

    Found at Professing Mama.

The guidelines: Write a blog of ten weird, random things, facts or habits about yourself. At the end, tag five more people, listing their names and why you chose them.

    1. I hate shopping for clothes. Mostly because I’m really cheap when it comes to clothes, and I tend to create arbitrary price limits for myself. For instance, I’ll say to myself, “I’m not paying more than $40 for a shirt,” and then I’ll find a great shirt for $45, but I refuse to buy it because I had set a limit of $40 for myself. Then what happens is I buy a shirt I don’t like very much for under $40 and I wish for months afterward that I would have ponied up the $45 for the shirt I liked. And I never, ever, ever learn.
    2. I love perfectly ripe fresh fruit. I know when different fruits are in season and I begin anticipating the really excellent blueberries in July, knowing that all the May/June/early July blueberries I’ve been eating are just teasers for those late July and August blueberries. . .
    3. I keep track of gifts I’ve given and received on an Excel spreadsheet, and I track when I sent a thank you note for gifts received. Part of this is because my memory is terrible and I’ve done dumb things like give my sister in law practically the same gift two birthdays in a row, and the other reason is that I like to look at the spreadsheet sometimes and reminisce about really great gifts given and received. OK, so I’m a freak. Like that’s news.
    4. When I was a kid, I didn’t want to be a superhero—I wanted to be SuperDog. I have no idea why. I was going to have a great cape and a little black eye mask.
    5. I don’t like to run, but I trained for and ran a full marathon in 2001. My desire to have a fitness goal outweighed my dislike of running. And oddly, I am considering training for and running the 2008 Honolulu Marathon, although the very thought of doing so makes my knees ache.
    6. I have two tiny bald spots on the back of my head where two screws were screwed into my skull to keep a metal halo in place when I had stereotactic radiosurgery for an AVM in 1997.
    7. When I was a kid, my mom used to make escargot with garlic and breadcrumbs every year for her and my dad’s wedding anniversary, and my sister and I loved them. Loved them. My own daughter, who is a pretty adventurous eater, says she will never eat snails, but when I was her age, I couldn’t get enough.
    8. When I was a teenager, I was diagnosed with not getting enough salt, which is pretty weird in the U.S. My family didn’t eat any processed food and my dad (who did the cooking after my mom died and before my sister and I were competent cooks) usually left the salt out of recipes because he doesn’t like salt.
    9. I used to be unable to resist a dare, so when I was in college and some guys dared me to eat 10 raw eggs, I did it.
    10. My ankles make a weird cracking sound with every step but there’s nothing wrong with them.
Tagged because I wonder what their lists will be like: Amy, Alex, Billie, Joanna, and Bonnie
