    Bird Trauma

    posted Monday, 24 October 2005
Ever since I read and saw The Birds, I've been noticing how sinister birds really are. I used to think birds were my friends. There was even a strange year when I saved three birds, in three different random incidents, from certain death. But now I shudder whenever I see birds, especially if there are several grouped together. It seems as if birds are always looking menacingly at me now.

The birds at RRCC all seem more dour than they did at this time last year. But there is a particular incident that occurred involving birds last week that has really rattled me. T and Lily and I were driving down Colorado Blvd., just north of I-25, where there are about a hundred billboards one after another. At a light, Lily started looking up and saying, "Look at those funny birds," over and over, and pointing. At first I didn't see them, and then when I did, I knew they were evil birds. A group of about 30 birds, medium-sized black birds, were flying in a tight oval, high above a billboard. They flew in this tight oval shape ten or fifteen times, silently, for no apparent reason. And then, suddenly, they all landed side by side on the top of the billboard and looked down at us with their piercing eyes. I realized that the metal of our car roof would be of no help if all those birds were to decide to drill through it with their evil little beaks.

    So creepy.
