Chapters 1 (intro) and 3 (methodology) are drafted, and I have bits and pieces of chapters 2 (review of lit), 4 (case studies), and 5 (analysis). I’m hoping to make substantial progress on chapter 4 in the next week and have it sent off to my advisor by the end of next week. A December graduation seems very, very possible right now!
In other news,
my wonderful supervisor did indeed get another job. I have high hopes for my supervisor; she is new at being an administrator, which in my mind, means she hasn’t yet gone over to the dark side. I was concerned that if I ended up being supervised by the “wrong” dean, there would be little or no support for my finishing up my dissertation. I know that sounds crazy—why would a dean not support an instructor finishing her dissertation? And yet, I’ve had two supervisors who were incredibly unsupportive of my pursuing a Ph.D. and one who basically implied that since I would probably leave for greener pastures once I’m Ph.Ded, why should the college support it? This was despite the fact that I’ve never said or implied that I would leave. In any case, I am quite relieved that my new dean will most likely be quite supportive.
