Random Bullets of (Academic) Summer's End
posted Saturday, 2 August 2008
- My summer “vacation” is officially over on Monday when I have a SEVEN HOUR orientation. Oh, the horror of sitting still for seven hours! Oh, the horror of summer break being over! Oh, the horror of having to dress appropriately!
- Summer “vacation” hasn’t exactly happened for me. Between finish up things at RRCC, starting things at Metro, and completing the first half of the book with Amy, I didn’t get much vacationing in.
- I did manage to squeeze in quite a few afternoon naps on the couch. Anything from 5 minutes to an hour, depending on the day. Ah, those I will miss.
- I’m not one to complain about the weather, but this string of days in the 90s is wearing me out. I feel dehydrated all the time.
- Although I officially start work at Metro on Monday, I don’t yet have an office or a computer to call my own. I have been squatting in someone else’s office while they are on leave and I have a loaner laptop that has very strict security settings and only Microsoft Office for software, which makes everything feel like a hassle. It will be nice to get settled into an office and have a computer with the software I use (SnagIt and Ethnograph are the two I miss the most).
- There's a new MLA style manual!!!
