Hosted an Obama party today, which was very inspiring. The field organizer who came was incredibly upbeat and positive about the campaign’s Colorado strategy. A bunch of people at the party committed to participating in the voter registration drive. I’m having my Writing Tutor students do participant observations of three different writing centers, and they have to create establishing maps of each writing center and then a callout map for one tutoring session. Does anyone know of any good resources to help teach mapping? Titan IPA is a very fine beer. I wish I had one right now. Amy and I are working on the chapter of our book that focuses on student examples, and as I’m annotating the examples, I’m remembering some really good classes and really good students. That’s one of the best aspects of this project—calling attention to some of the really interesting, thought-provoking work our students have done. (And reminding me again of how irritated I get when colleagues go on and on about how awful their students are.) Dessert I recommend: coffee ice cream with peanut butter and oreos smooshed up in it. Mmmm. A colleague and I are working on a proposal for what will be a really cool program, assuming we get funding. We want to create a series of workshops for students in the College Assistance Migrant Program, a program that supports students who are migrant or seasonal farm workers or students whose parents are migrant or seasonal farm workers. I am obsessed with these two photos right now: this one of seals on Namibia's Skeleton Coast and this famous one of Kevin Carter's. Can't get them out of my head. tags: textbook students teaching places dessert beer photos
