When I was a kid in the early ‘70s, my mom took the Wilton cake decorating series and I remember her bringing home the Wilton yearbook every year and asking me which cake I wanted her to make for my birthday. I don’t remember all the cakes she made for me, but I do remember a princess cake and a ladybug cake.
My mom died suddenly when I was 12. Taking the classes myself makes me feel more connected to my mom, and also makes me feel like I can create for Lily the same kinds of fabulously decorated cakes my mom made for me—making it a family tradition. Of course, I cringe at the thought of Lily requesting a princess cake and I’m not sure what I’ll do if/when she does.
