    Surviving Work

(rules as they come to me)

    1. If a meeting has a specified end time, leave at that time, even if the meeting isn't over.
    2. If a meeting does not have a specified end time, call the meeting convener and ask when the meeting will end. Leave at the specified end time.
    3. Bring something to work on in case the meeting starts late.

    pre-election daze

    posted Monday, 1 November 2004
The last time I was this anxious about an election was 1988. I'm in a pre-election daze, unable to fully concentrate on anything right now but the election.

How long until we know who our next president is? I surveyed two of my classes and most students thought Kerry would win, but that we wouldn't know that until December. Someone suggested we might end up with both major candidates proclaiming victory and assembling cabinets. This made me think of the dueling popes of the 14th century. What if W and Kerry both proclaimed themselves victors? What if W refused to move out of the White House and Kerry moved in and they had to live as roommates?

This could be the next reality show.
