(rules as they come to me)

    1. If a meeting has a specified end time, leave at that time, even if the meeting isn't over.
    2. If a meeting does not have a specified end time, call the meeting convener and ask when the meeting will end. Leave at the specified end time.
    3. Bring something to work on in case the meeting starts late.

    no love in the classroom

    posted Monday, 26 February 2007
After being away from school for a week (her grandparents took her to Disney World), Lily announced she didn’t want to go back to school because “there are too many rules.” When I asked which rules she had a problem with, she said, “No hugging! No kissing! No I love yous! And if you break the rules, you know what? You have to go to the red time out chair!” Apparently Lily has been overaffectionate to someone at school. . . I’ll need to look into this.

That sucks, but it doesn't surprise me too much. I could understand the "No Kissing", but I know that at the school I work at you're not supposed to hug the kids. Seriously though, when they go to you for a hug, what are you gonna do? Turn them away? We still do hugs, but we try our best to always give them the "side-hug". Obviously, you've gotta be careful about it. I'm not going to hug any of the 5th or 6th grade girls, but that's just common sense. Some of these kids need hugs, why should we outlaw that? It doesn't hurt anyone ... unless I'm totally missing something.

Ya know, hugging at school can just lead to problems.

I'm sure it can, it's a sticky situation. I don't think it should be outlawed, but I can see why they do it that way. I don't think you can just write up a "how to hug" guide, and just letting everyone go off their own feelings is where the problem comes in.
