If you are interested in teaching at a community college or merely morbidly curious about how faculty positions at a community college differ from those at four-year institutions, the MLA's Committee on Community Colleges' report, "A Community College Teaching Career," is a must read.
The information in the report on applying for and interviewing for positions at community colleges is very accurate, and the bulleted list of "distinct features" of community college faculty positions is both accurate and sobering.
There is a brief bit on adjunct positions at the end of the report, which is too bad. Since adjuncts make up the majority of many English departments at community colleges--including at Red Rocks--more space should have been devoted to adjunct positions. How ironic that, as usual, adjunct instructors are ignored in this report.
i used to be _very_ interested in teaching at a cc. in fact, that's what i
wanted to do once i got my ph.d. now, though, that's changed. maybe, in
part, b/c of the experience below, or maybe b/c i've realized how much i
love the research aspect of what i do.
